Cold sores

Cold sores are a common symptom of the herpes simplex virus (HSV). They usually result from close contact with someone who has oral herpes (HSV1), and are often spread through kissing. Though rarer, they can be transmitted as the result of having oral sex with a partner who is suffering from genital herpes (HSV2).

Cold sores are show up as groups of fluid filled blisters, which crop up on swollen areas of skin, or on mucilaginous regions of the body. These regions can become painful and tender. The blisters heal without scarring but can reoccur often.

A first episode of cold sores can cause secondary symptoms, which can include a high temperature and swollen gums.

Why do cold sores occur?

Once someone has contracted HSV, cold sores have the tendency to reappear at certain times. Once infected, the virus remains permanently within the human body. Though it is not clear what can cause the dormant virus to reactivate. Common triggers for cold sores include:

  • Emotional Upset
  • Fatigue
  • Menstrual Periods
  • Illness, such as flu and colds
  • Cold Winds

Recurrence

The recurrence of the sores depends on the individual's response to the disease. Some people have little to no recurrent outbreaks, whereas others do. Episodes seem to decrease as time goes on. Though painful and unsightly, these episodes can be improved with the correct use of effective cold sores treatment.

Long-term sufferers can feel a cold sore coming by a tingling sensation on the skin. When this happens, the application of a good cold sores treatment, such as Zovirax, can help deal with a breakout.

There are four stages to cold sores:

  • Firstly tingling, burning or itching sensations in the skin will develop.
  • After about 6 hours of initial symptoms the first tiny blisters appear with reddish coloured swelling of the skin around them.
  • After a day or so, these blisters become an open sore, which forms a scabby crust.
  • The sore gradually heals and the crust falls off about 7-10 days later, and there is little to no visible symptoms remaining.

Cold Sores Treatment

Paracetamol can help reduce inflammation in painful areas where sores may be. Others have found that salves containing witch hazel can be effective when applied to an affected area.

There are two main medical options for cold sores treatment:

You can take Valtrex or Famvir to recover from the infection quickly. Valtrex 2000mg twice for a single day is the most commonly recommended dosage whereas a single dose of Famvir 1500mg for one day is often prescribed to patients suffering from cold sores.

Even though both these medications offer effective cold sores treatment, they can have side effects, however they are rare. These include gastrointestinal upset like vomiting, abdominal pain. There is also the possibility of headache and dizziness. So it is imperative that you consult a doctor before buying Valtrex or Famvir. You can buy them online if you do not want to visit a doctor in person and talk about your genital problems. To buy Valtrex or Famvir online, you have to provide the details of your condition in a consultation form. Your health details will be reviewed by one of our doctors before you get the medicine delivered at your place within a day.
